England wicketkeeper Amy Jones scored her maiden ODI hundred, 12 years after making her international debut, having been promoted at Derby against West Indies.
Jones' innings formed half of a huge opening partnership after England opted to bat first. She and Tammy Beaumont put on 222 runs – England's fourth-highest opening stand in a women's ODI – before Beaumont was out for 107. The match was Jones' first ODI as an opener since 2019, having predominantly batted at No.5 or lower in the format since then. Under new coach Charlotte Edwards, Jones was promoted to partner Beaumont while specialist opener Emma Lamb was pushed down to three.
After Maia Bouchier struggled at the top of the order in the Ashes over the winter, there were signs that Jones would take over up the order when she took on the role in an England practice game before the start of the domestic summer. She also took on the role for The Blaze, where Beaumont also plays, across the start of the One Day Cup. Despite a slow start in the domestic competition, Jones scored her first half-century of the summer against Lancashire, before following up three days later with 80 against Surrey.

While she retained her usual position at No.5 in the T20I leg of the West Indies series, her move to open represents a change in England's thinking under their new leadership. Having been the early pace-setter in the partnership, taking most of the early strike and reaching her half-century while Beaumont was still in the 20s, Jones took more of a back seat after passing 80. She reached her hundred putting away a short and wide delivery off Cherry-Ann Fraser in the 36th over.
Despite having played 98 ODIs for England, putting her in the 15 most capped players for her country in the format, it was Jones' maiden international century. She has twice been out in the 90s and was once left stranded on 92*.
Having reached the milestone, she holed out to Hayley Matthews in the deep for 122, becoming the third England wicket to fall for 246 runs.
