
The England men's team have added Tim Southee to their coaching staff for the 2025 home season.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Thursday (May 15) the appointment of Tim Southee to the senior men's team as a specialist skills consultant temporarily across all formats.

"The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is pleased to announce the appointment of former New Zealand international Tim Southee as a Specialist Skills Consultant for the England Men’s teams on a short-term basis," the ECB release read.
"Southee, 36, who retired from international cricket in December as New Zealand’s all-time leading wicket-taker, will support England’s squads across all formats through to the conclusion of the Rothesay Test series against India. With his vast experience of playing in a wide range of conditions around the world and across all formats, he brings valuable insight and knowledge to the players."
How many matches will Southee be part of England support staff?
The release mentions that Southee will join the team ahead of their one-off Test against Zimbabwe starting May 22 at Trent Bridge. Following that, England play three ODIs and three T20Is against the West Indies, which will be followed by the five-Test series against India at home.
With his contract set to expire at the end of the India series, Southee is expected to be part of the England dressing room for six Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is.
The former New Zealand captain is also part of the Birmingham Phoenix squad for The Hundred and will join them as a player after the India series which ends on August 4. The Hundred is scheduled to begin the very next day with Birmingham Phoenix set to play their first match on August 8, against Trent Rockets.
England already have two former New Zealand internationals in their coaching staff: Brendon McCullum as the head coach and Jeetan Patel as the spin bowling coach.
