Walking in at the fall of Rohit Sharma’s wicket, Kohli got two runs off the first delivery he faced, tapping it to midwicket for a couple of runs. Hasan Mahmud overstepped though, with the resultant free-hit giving Kohli a chance to have a go at him.
Kohli clattered the first ball from outside off past mid on for a boundary – it turned out to be another no-ball, giving yet another free-hit to Kohli.
Off the next one, Kohli went even bigger, going deep in his crease and smacking a six down the ground.
The onslaught continued – though not to the same extent – but Kohli steadily built on the good start to bring up his 48th ODI hundred, finishing unbeaten on 103 off 97.
“I was telling Shubman that even if you dream about this situation, you go back to sleep,” Kohli later said on the start. “It was a dream start. It just calms you down. The pitch was good, allowed me to play my game – hit the gaps and find the boundaries whenever I could.”
