Like their maiden T20 World Cup appearance in 2021, Assad Vala will lead Papua New Guinea with leg-spinning all-rounder CJ Amini as his deputy. Vala is one of the 10 players from their 2021 campaign, alongside reserve Jack Gardner, who made it to the main squad this time.

Fourteen players from the qualifying outfit have been included in the squad for the global event. Chad Soper, who was also a part of their 2021 campaign, has returned after his impressive run on Malaysia and Oman tours. Left-arm spinner John Kariko is the youngest player in the group. His experience in the 2022 Under-19 World Cup in the West Indies, where he took a five-wicket haul against Uganda, will come in handy.

Papua New Guinea are placed in Group C in the first round of the World Cup. They play West Indies on June 3 and Uganda on June 5, both at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana; Afghanistan and New Zealand on June 13 and 17, respectively, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in San Fernando, Trinidad.

PNG entered the tournament, riding their unbeaten run in the East Asia-Pacific regional Qualifier in July 2023. They won six matches on the trot to leave behind other contenders like Japan, Vanuatu and the Philippines.
