Former Sri Lanka all-rounder Shehan Jayasuriya has been named in the USA squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Shehan Jayasuriya named in USA T20 World Cup squad
Jayasuriya played 12 ODIs and 18 T20Is for Sri Lanka between 2015 and 2020, but has yet to make his debut for the USA. He recently scored his 14th first-class hundred while captaining Panadura in the Major League Tournament against Kurunegala, scoring 100* in the three-day game.

Jayasuriya was part of Sri Lanka's squad for the 2016 T20 World Cup, playing against Afghanistan and South Africa at that tournament. He moved to the USA in 2021, and was signed by the Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket (MLC) in 2023.
Pakistan-born bowling all-rounder Mohammad Mohsin, who bowls leg spin and bats left-handed, has also been named in the USA squad. He is yet to play international cricket. All-rounder Shubham Ranjane, selected for the World Cup, has played ODI cricket for the USA but has yet to play T20Is.
Meanwhile, Aaron Jones, charged under the ICC and CWI's anti-corruption codes and suspended from all forms of cricket, hasn’t been selected. 10 of the 15 players selected for the 2024 World Cup have been picked for the upcoming edition. Monank Patel will captain the side while right-arm pacer Jasdeep Singh has been named his deputy.
The squad has been in Sri Lanka as part of their preparations for the ICC event under head coach Pubudu Dassanayake. They will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against defending champions India on February 7. Pakistan, the Netherlands and Namibia are the other three teams in their group.
This will be the USA's second appearance at a T20 World Cup after their debut campaign in 2024. They famously defeated Pakistan to qualify for the Super Eight stage of that tournament.
