South Africa have named their squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup, to be held in February-March in India and Sri Lanka.

South Africa name 15-member squad for T20 World Cup

Aiden Markram will lead South Africa’s 15-member squad, which features seven players who also took part in the 2024 edition. Along with Markram, Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, and Anrich Nortje have been selected for the event twice in a row. Seven more players will appear in the tournament for the first time.

The fast bowling department will be led by Kagiso Rabada, who recently returned to action after being sidelined due to a rib injury. Nortje, Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Kwena Maphaka and Lungi Ngidi will feature alongside him, while the spin bowling duties will be shared between George Linde and Maharaj. Markram and Donovan Ferreira can also contribute with their part-time off-spin bowling.

No Stubbs, Rickelton also ignored

The biggest surprises from the squad were the omissions of Tristan Stubbs and Ryan Rickelton, with Jason Smith and Tony de Zorzi being picked instead. Stubbs had a strike rate of 129.58 in T20s last year, but is widely known as one of the most promising youngsters. His T20 strike rate is 143.64 across 147 games, with 11 fifties.

Rickelton averaged 36.59 with a strike rate of 160.91 in 30 T20s last year, including hitting one ton. De Zorzi, on the other hand, struck at 136.58 at an average of 24, playing only seven T20s.

The Proteas will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on February 9 against Canada.
