Afghanistan opened their T20 World Cup 2026 account, while England and Sri Lanka also registered wins. Here are the points tables after Monday’s action.
T20 World Cup 2026: Day ten recap
Afghanistan vs UAE
Afghanistan won the toss and fielded first in this Group D match in Delhi. UAE’s Sohaib Khan and Alishan Sharfu were driving the team to a healthy total, but a middle-order collapse saw them restricted to 160.
Azmatullah Omarzai, after picking up four wickets in the first innings, finished the chase for Afghanistan in the last over after Ibrahim Zadran had given them a solid start. Omarzai was named the player of the match for his all-round performance.
England vs Italy
Everyone except Jos Buttler got starts for England, and Will Jacks’ late-innings heroics took them past the 200-run mark. The all-rounder hit a 22-ball 53 as England finished at a healthy 202-7 before reducing Italy to 22-3 inside four overs in the chase.
But Ben Manenti slammed 60 runs off just 25 deliveries to get Italy back in the chase, and was helped by Grant Stewart’s 23-ball 45. But their contributions weren’t enough as England closed down the game to win by 24 runs and qualify for the Super Eights.
Sri Lanka vs Australia
In a crucial match for Australia, they were put into bat first in Pallekele, and openers Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head capitalised on the opportunity to add 104 runs for the first wicket. But the Sri Lanka spinners wrested back control, with Australia managing just 77 runs while losing all 10 wickets in 11.4 overs to get bowled out for 181.
Pathum Nissanka then scored a scintillating 52-ball century to take Sri Lanka home in 18 overs. With the win, they also booked their spot in the Super Eights, and have left Australia in a precarious position in the qualification race.
