New Zealand and Sri Lanka collected wins on day two of the ICC men's T20 World Cup 2026, as did England even as they suffered an almighty scare along the way. Here's what the points table looks like after the second round of matches.
T20 World Cup 2026: Day two recap
Afghanistan vs New Zealand
The first game of the day saw Afghan skipper Rashid Khan bat after winning the toss. A fine half-century from Gulbadin Naib (63) powered them to 182-6 in Chennai, but the overwhelming feeling was they had left 10-15 runs out there.

And so it proved. Despite Mujeeb ur Rehman's twin strikes to dismiss Finn Allen and Rachin Ravindra off consecutive balls in the second over, the Black Caps reached their target with five wickets and 13 balls to spare. Tim Seifert (65) won Player of the Match.
England vs Nepal
By far the most entertaining match of the tournament so far, England made a challenging 184-7 in Mumbai thanks to fifties from Jacob Bethell (55) and Harry Brook (53), and an 18-ball 39 from Will Jacks.

Nepal stayed abreast of the required rate throughout, Rohit Paudel and Dipendra Singh Airee putting on a masterclass of batting against spin in the middle overs. Even as they departed in quick succession, Lokesh Bam took the chase by the scruff of its neck. He struck four fours and two sixes in his unbeaten 39, but couldn't take Nepal to a famous victory, as Sam Curran held his nerve to defend nine runs in the final over.
Ireland vs Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka's 50-run Powerplay was undercut somewhat as they took another 57 balls to reach the 100-run mark. Thereafter, it was down to Kamindu Mendis (44 off 19) to provide some impetus to the innings, and lift them to 163-6.
Despite a few early blows from Ross Adair, Ireland's chase never really got off the ground. He made 34 and Harry Tector top-scored with 40, but a somewhat strange chase fizzled out as they fell 20 runs short.
