South Africa and India win big on day six of Super Eights

South Africa put West Indies in to bat in the earlier game at Ahmedabad, and struck early with the wickets of Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer in the third over. It was 52-4 after six overs and West Indies continued to go hard, sliding to 83-7. That same policy bailed them out though, as a record eighth-wicket stand helped them to 176-8.

However, that was still an under-par score. South Africa raced to 69-0 in the Powerplay and lost Quinton de Kock with the score on 95. Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram ensured no further hiccups as they cantered to a nine-wicket win with 23 balls to spare.

Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza made the same call in Chennai in the evening, with far less success. India's top order piled on 80-1 in the Powerplay, before they went on to make 256, the second-highest total at a T20 World Cup, and the highest of this edition.

While a successful chase was unlikely, Zimbabwe's batters, Brian Bennett in particular, gave a good account of themselves – they ended up with 184-6 even as their World Cup journey came to an end.
