Evin Lewis has not been named in T20 World Cup squad

West Indies batter Evin Lewis has seemingly retired from international cricket after being ignored for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

The 15-member squad, led by Shai Hope, includes Johnson Charles as a backup keeper, but has no place for Lewis - who has as many caps (67), and was also part of the recent-most Afghanistan T20I series.

Lewis did not play the third T20I after scoring 3 and 14 in the first two.

Has Evin Lewis retired from international cricket?

Following the announcement, Lewis put up a post hinting at a decision on his future.

“Jus wanna thank everyone who supported me in my 10yrs off international cricket but I think the time has come for me to depart. Stay tuned”.

Lewis began his career at the 2016 T20 World Cup, opening alongside Charles, and has since scored 1,799 runs at 29.01, striking at 152. He is their fifth-highest run-getter in the format, with Chris Gayle being the only other with two centuries.

With a 1,500 run cutoff among Full Member players, only Tim David, Phil Salt, Suryakumar Yadav, Colin Munro and Glenn Maxwell have better career strike rates.

Last year, Lewis played just four T20Is owing to injury: after missing one Australia game mid-year, he had to be left out of the Pakistan series as well, returning only earlier this year for the Afghanistan series. In the interim, he featured in the Caribbean Premier League and the Abu Dhabi T10.

There was no mention of Lewis in Cricket West Indies’ squad announcement, and no official response has since been provided on his future. Lewis has now mysteriously made his Instagram account – with over 90,000 followers – private.
