Sri Lanka cling on to semi-final hopes, Bangladesh eliminated
Bangladesh bowled out Sri Lanka for 202 in 48.4 overs after Chamari Athapaththu won the toss and opted to field. Marufa Akter trapped Vishmi Gunaratne leg-before with the first ball of the match, but Athapaththu (46 in 43 balls) and Hasini Perera (85 in 99) added 72 for the second wicket. Bangladesh hit back to reduce Sri Lanka to 100-4 before Perera put on 74 with Nilakshika Silva (37 in 38).
From 174-4, Sri Lanka then slipped to 182-8 before being bowled out for 202. For Bangladesh, Shorna Akter claimed 3-27 and Rabeya Khan 2-39.
Bangladesh became 44-3 in response when Sharmin Akhter (64 not out in 103) and captain Nigar Sultana Joty (77 in 98) added 82. After Sharmin retired with cramps, Shorna helped Joty put on another 50. With 10 to score in nine balls, the match was Bangladesh’s to lose, but they lost another wicket.
With nine to score off the last over, Athapaththu herself came on to bowl. She trapped Rabeya lbw with her first ball. Nahida Akter was run out off the second, and Sharmin returned to the crease. Joty holed out in the deep off the third. And Marufa was lbw off the fourth.
