England beat India in a nail-biter in the Women's World Cup on Sunday (October 19), completing a team-record chase to do so. Here's what that result has done to the points table.
India fall just short after reigning in England
India's first game of the tournament at the Holkar Stadium in Indore saw them field first after England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt won the toss. Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones got their side off to a sedate start, with a 44-run Powerplay.
Beaumont was the first to go, for 22, before Jones made it to a half-century. Heather Knight and Sciver-Brunt then put on the biggest partnership of the innings, 113 in 17.4 overs. Knight scored her third ODI ton, and second in the World Cup as she anchored the innings with 109 off 91.
England were 249-3 in the 45th over before she fell, and eventually scrambled their way to 288-8. Deepti Sharma was the standout bowler, with 4-51; her best figures in a World Cup match.
In reply, India lost Pratika Rawal early, and Harleen Deol was dismissed off the final ball of the Powerplay to leave her side 42-2. But captain and vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana combined for a 125-run third-wicket stand to get the chase back on track.
Deepti kept the momentum going with a brisk half-century, but Mandhana and then Richa Ghosh holed out in quick succession. Deepti herself then went with 27 still required off 19 balls. Thereafter, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Sophie Ecclestone, Linsey Smith and Lauren Bell held their nerve to restrict Sneh Rana and Amanjot Kaur, bowling England to a four-run win.
