New Zealand open World Cup account in Guwahati
At the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, White Ferns skipper Sophie Devine won the toss, and elected to bat first. After a steady but slow start from openers Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer, both openers were dismissed in the ninth over; Plimmer stumped off the bowling of Rabeya Khan, and Bates run out.

Rabeya got rid of Amelia Kerr two overs later to reduce New Zealand to 38-3, but that was as good as the day got for Bangladesh. Devine (63) and Brooke Halliday (69) resurrected the innings with a 112-run stand for the fourth wicket. The pair were dismissed within five overs of each other, before Bangladesh recovered at the back end of the innings to send New Zealand from 202-5 to 222 all out.

The target of 223 was certainly attainable, but Bangladesh's chase was nearly over before it could really get off the ground. New Zealand pacers Rosemary Mair and Jess Kerr kept a lid on the scoring, and struck at regular intervals to reduce Bangladesh to 22-3 inside the Powerplay. That soon became 33-6, as all of the top five departed for single-digit scores.
There were stands of 33 and 44 for the seventh and eighth wickets, but it was only a matter of time before New Zealand bowled Bangladesh out for 127 and secured a much-needed first win of the campaign.
