The match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand on October 14 in the Women's World Cup was abandoned after rain swept through Colombo. Here is what the points table looks like after the wash out.
Sri Lanka, New Zealand share points
Sri Lanka posted 258-6 at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo after Chamari Athapaththu won the toss and opted to bat. Opening batting, Athapaththu herself provided Sri Lanka an excellent start with 53, adding 101 for the opening stand with Vishmi Gunaratne (42).
Hasini Perera (44) and Harshitha Samarawickrama (26) also chipped in with contributions, but the most significant boost came from Nilakshika Silva. Coming to bat at 188-6, Silva smashed 55 not out in 28 balls with seven fours and a six out of the 70 Sri Lanka scored during her stay.
At 26 balls, hers was the fastest fifty of the ongoing World Cup as well as the fastest for Sri Lanka in women’s ODIs. For New Zealand, Sophie Devine claimed 3-54 and Bree Illing 2-39.
Unfortunately, no play was possible after the mid-innings break, and the two teams had to shared the points.
Women's World Cup 2025: Updated points table after SL v NZ
New Zealand stayed at fifth place, a point behind India – and have a negative run rate. If Australia, England, and South Africa do not lose to any side outside this group of three, India versus New Zealand may turn into a virtual quarter-final.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, are on two points, thanks to their washouts against Australia and New Zealand. They are not out of this yet, but they have a challenging route to secure semi-final qualification.
