Two members of Australia's 2025 Women's World Cup squad were harassed by a motorcyclist on the streets in Indore.
The incident is said to have occurred on Thursday morning, when the players were heading to a cafe.
Cricket Australia confirmed to Wisden: "Cricket Australia can confirm two members of the Australian Women's Team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a cafe in Indore.
The matter has been reported by team security to police who are handling the matter".
According to PTI, the incident occurred on the Khajrana Road area, on the outskirts of East Indore, which is about four kilometres from the Holkar Stadium. The Australia Women are set to play South Africa Women for a spot at the top of the table on Saturday, which will decide their semi-final opponent.
The local police have arrested the man involved in the incident, as confirmed to PTI by sub-inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi.
Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, the host board, put out a statement, condemning the incident. They extended “apologies to the players for this deeply distressing and unfortunate incident while in our city known for safety, grace, and hospitality” and praised the local police for “their swift and determined action in identifying and apprehending the accused in o short period”.
“The local police and administration have consistently demonstrated diligence in ensuring player security during all official movements,” added the release. “In this unfortunate incident, it shall be examined whether the players hod sought security cover for the movement outside hotel, or whether the movement occurred in absence of any request for security.”
Australia are currently at the top of the points table with five wins in six games, and one no-result. The fixture against South Africa is their third game at Indore, having already played against New Zealand and England.
