Kirstie Gordon

Former England spinner Kirstie Gordon has switched her allegiance back to Scotland and will feature in their 2026 T20 World Cup squad, eight years on from when she represented England in the final of the 2018 edition.

Kirstie Gordon named in Scotland World Cup squad

Gordon has been named in Scotland's 15-player squad for the upcoming tournament, which will be the second consecutive women's T20 World Cup Scotland have featured in.

After representing Scotland at senior level 60 times between 2012 and 2017, Gordon changed her allegiance to England when she was 20 in order to play in the Kia Super League. She was then named in England's squad as a left-arm spinner for the 2018 T20 World Cup after she was the leading wicket-taker in the KSL that summer. She made her T20I debut for England in the World Cup, and took three wickets in her first outing against Bangladesh.

England got to the final in that edition, but were comprehensively beaten by Australia. Gordon in particular was targeted in the chase, conceding figures of 0-30 after being taken down by Ash Gardner. Following that game, Gordon was not called-up by England again in T20 colours but did play in the Ashes Test match at Taunton. She took three wickets – Alyssa Healy, Meg Lanning and Sophie Molineux – in a game that petered out into a draw.

That was the last time Gordon represented England: she slipped behind Sophie Ecclestone in the left-arm spin pecking order.

In December last year, Gordon declared her intention to play for Scotland again, after fellow left-arm spinner Linsey Smith became a core part of England's set-up. There is no requirement for completing a qualification period when switching allegiance to an Associate Team, meaning Gordon was available for selection for the first time for Scotland's T20 World Cup squad.

Alongside her in the squad are her county teammates in Sarah and Katherine Bryce. Scotland will begin their 2026 T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland at Old Trafford on June 13.

If Gordon plays, she will become the first woman to play for two separate teams at the T20 World Cup.
