Azmatullah Omarzai hit Rashid Khan for 23 runs in an over, including three maximums, in the International League T20 2025/26 game between MI Emirates and Gulf Giants.
The two Afghanistan teammates faced off in the 12th over of the Giants’ chase of 164, and Omarzai came out on top. He hit the first ball for a four over extra cover that almost went all the way. The next ball did go all the way, while the third was an odd dot ball.
Omarzai then charged down the track for a straight six, followed by a strike over long on for the third six of the over. A single off the last ball meant Rashid conceded 23 in the over, more than half of the 44 runs he leaked in his three-over spell on the night.
Omarzai smoked a 16-ball 39 to add to Pathum Nissanka’s 81 off 42 as the Giants chased down the target with six wickets and more than five overs to spare. Chris Woakes was the top-wicket taker for the MI Emirates with two, but he went at 12.25 an over to finish with figures of 2-49.
Batting first, Emirates laboured their way to 163, with Kieron Pollard (50 off 33) hitting his 67th T20 fifty after the side were reduced to 30-3, and then to 4-57. He added 78 runs with Nicholas Pooran (46 off 39) for the fifth wicket before Romario Shepherd took over the proceedings with 18 runs in six deliveries.
On the back of a seamless victory, the Giants took the top spot on the ILT20 table after the first round of games with a healthy net run-rate of +3.032. MI Emirates, meanwhile, are currently placed sixth and last.
