Jason Holder finished 2025 with 97 T20 wickets, the most by any bowler in the format in a calendar year.
The former West Indies skipper played 69 matches this year around the globe, picking up 97 scalps at 21.42, with an economy rate of 8.30 an over. He picked up six four-fors, with best figures of 4-14, which came against Barbados Royals in the CPL.
Overall, Holder played for six teams in 2025: West Indies, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Islamabad United, Khulna Tigers, Los Angeles Knight Riders, and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
Holder overtakes Rashid Khan for most T20 wickets in a year
Holder picked up 2-24 against the Gulf Giants in the ILT20 on Sunday, during which he also surpassed Rashid Khan for the most T20 wickets in a year. Rashid had taken 96 T20 scalps in 2018, averaging 15.46 in 61 games.
Holder and Rashid are the only two bowlers with more than 90 wickets in a year. Among seamers, only two have taken more than 80 wickets in one calendar year - Holder’s compatriot Dwayne Bravo had taken 87 wickets back in 2016, averaging 24.47 from 71 innings.
Naveen-ul-Haq (78 in 2024), Andre Russell (76 in 2016) and Andrew Tye (75 in 2018) are the other seamers to pick up 75 T20 wickets in a calendar year.
What makes Holder’s feat even more sensational this year has been his form with the bat as well: he scored 846 runs at 24.17 at a strike rate of 159.92, his best batting performance in a year. Before 2025, Holder never had a strike rate of over 145 in any calendar year where he batted more than twice.
