Matt Renshaw and Cooper Connolly batting in Australia's final 2025 ODI against India

Australia have moved down into third in the latest update to the ICC men's ODI team rankings, despite their 2-1 series win over India.

Australia have moved down below New Zealand on the list, but are equal with the Black Caps on their overall rating of 109. India remain out in front at No.1, with a rating of 122, despite their series-loss in Australia.

The first two matches of the series were won by the home side, who claimed a seven-wicket victory in the first game, which was heavily reduced by rain. In the second, Australia won by two wickets, with Cooper Connolly scoring an unbeaten half-century to see them over the line. However, India clawed back with a consolation win in the final match, winning by nine wickets after bowling Australia out for 236, before a huge stand between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli sealed the win.

That loss brought Australia's ODI rating down by one point, enough for them to slip below New Zealand. The Black Caps began a three-match ODI series against England today (October 26), in which they have the potential to open a gap to Australia in third.

England are currently in eighth position in the rankings, and are seven ratings points behind seventh placed Afghanistan. With the top eight teams (excluding hosts South Africa) in the rankings set to secure automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup, England will be looking to improve their position to sure up their place in that group.
