India and New Zealand will face off in three ODIs between January 11 and 18. Here’s how the squads shape up ahead of the series.

IND vs NZ ODIs: Recent form

Vadodara, Rajkot and Indore will host the three ODIs respectively, with the spotlight once again on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Shreyas Iyer also returns to the India squad after recovering from a spleen injury suffered during their tour of Australia last year. India went down 2-1 in a three-ODI series down under, before condemning South Africa to a 2-1 defeat to finish the year on a high.

India have made three changes to the side that lined up against the Proteas, with Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Siraj returning to the ODI team. Tilak Varma, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Dhruv Jurel have been dropped. Varma has also suffered an injury and has been ruled out of the following T20I series.

New Zealand, on the other hand, have named a largely second-string side, with one eye on the upcoming T20 World Cup. Michael Bracewell, who has a 100 per cent win record as captain in ODIs, will lead the team.

The visitors have clean-swept all three ODI series they have featured in after losing the Champions Trophy final to India. They defeated Pakistan, England, and the West Indies 3-0 and will hope to do the same against a far tougher ODI opponent in India.
