Virat Kohli has displaced teammate Shubman Gill in the ODI batting rankings after his century in the opening match of India’s three-game series against South Africa in Ranchi.

Kohli’s 135 from 120 balls lifted him from fifth to fourth place with 751 rating points, bringing him within 32 points of Rohit Sharma, who continues to lead the ODI list. He equalled his best rank in the last 15 months: he was also at No.4 in August 2024. Kohli has not returned to the top of the rankings since he was displaced by Babar Azam in April 2021, ending a period of over three years at No.1.

Rohit remains ahead of Daryl Mitchell and Ibrahim Zadran in the ODI rankings, with the latter achieving his career-best of 764 points, while Kohli’s rise saw him move past Shubman Gill. Gill did not play the first ODI against the Proteas due to an injury. India also registered an improvement in the bowling rankings, with Kuldeep Yadav moving up one position to sixth.

Marco Jansen jumps to career-best in Test rankings

South Africa’s 2-0 Test series victory over India resulted in significant shifts in the Test rankings. Marco Jansen achieved a career-high fifth place among Test bowlers and advanced to second among Test all-rounders. The lanky quick picked up 12 wickets across the two Tests while also scoring a crucial 93 in the Guwahati Test. He gained five spots to enter the top five in the bowling charts, which continues to be led by Jasprit Bumrah. Jansen also achieved his highest spot in the Test all-rounder charts, and trails top-placed Ravindra Jadeja.

Simon Harmer moved up 13 spots to 11th after taking 17 wickets across the two Tests. Kyle Verreynne, Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs rose to 38th, 39th and 47th, respectively, among the Test batting rankings.
