KL Rahul brought up his 11th Test hundred during the second day of the West Indies Test today (October 3) to continue his sensational form in the format.

India were up against the West Indies’ first innings score of 162 in the first Test at Ahmedabad. They lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan early, but opener Rahul, alongside skipper Shubman Gill, ensured the team did not lose another wicket by stumps on day one. Gill brought up a half-century on day two, becoming just the second Indian captain after Sunil Gavaskar to score a fifty in his maiden Test innings at home. He departed for a 100-ball 50 eventually, falling to Roston Chase.

Rahul, at the other end, kept going, bringing up his 11th Test hundred off 190 deliveries. It was just his second ton at home, reaching the landmark in India after December 2016, or after eight years, nine months and 14 days to be precise. He had scored 199 back then against England, which is also the same match when Karun Nair brought up his triple ton.

In the process, the 33-year-old also became the fourth from India to score 10 hundreds as an opener. Gavaskar heads the list, with 33 Test hundreds at the top of the order, followed by Virender Sehwag (22) and Murali Vijay (12). Ahead of the Test, he was joint-fourth on the list with Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma, with nine. Rahul's sole century scored while not opening was a masterful knock against South Africa during the 2023/24 tour.

The hundred continued Rahul’s phenomenal form in Test cricket. He has already scored the most runs he has ever notched in a calendar year in 2025, beating his previous best of 633 in 2017. He has three hundreds - the most he has made in a year - along with two fifties, scoring five fifty-plus scores for the first time in seven years. He was also one of India’s crucial players on the England tour, amassing 532 runs in five Tests, helping the young Indian side to a memorable series draw.
