India beat West Indies in first Test at Ahmedabad
The first Test between the sides kicked off on October 2, with the visitors electing to bat first. They were in trouble early as both openers departed with the score at 20, and the innings only went downhill from there. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj shared seven wickets to knock them over for 162. Justin Greaves top-scored with 32.
In reply, India were 121-2 by the end of day one, KL Rahul unbeaten on 53. He went on to complete his 11th Test century on day two (October 3), as Dhruv Jurel (125) and Ravindra Jadeja (104*) also hit tons. India declared overnight on day two, allowing the visitors to bat again on day three (October 4).
West Indies lasted barely a session and a half. They were 66-5 by lunch, even as Greaves and Alick Athanaze put on 46 for the sixth wicket. But it was only a matter of time before India made short work of them, eventually bowling the tourists out for 146, to win by an innings and 140 runs.
