After starting steadily – he was 14 off 12 at one point – Dhawan stepped up against Chawla, hitting him for back-to-back boundaries in the sixth over. Off the first ball of Chawla’s next over, Dhawan used his feet to crunch a four over the bowler’s head, moving to 30 off 19.
That’s when Chawla struck. He looped the ball a bit and held his length back, inviting Dhawan out of his crease. But it was a googly, deceiving the Punjab Kings skipper who had drifted out. The ball beat him, and Ishan Kishan did the rest, removing the bails to have him stumped.
The leg-spinner continues to have a stellar season and is third on the Purple Cap list with 15 wickets from nine games. Having not played in IPL 2022, and only one game in 2021, he’s now taken seven more wickets than the next-best Mumbai bowler this season. Among all bowlers in IPL history, Chawla is joint-third on the wickets list.
