Jason Roy, batting at No. 5 for the first time in his T20 career, smashed three consecutive sixes off the bowling of Moeen Ali in KKR’s clash against CSK at Eden Gardens.

Roy was a late addition to the KKR squad for the 2023 tournament, joining the group following Shakib Al Hasan’s withdrawal from the competition.

In his only previous appearance for KKR this season, Roy top scored from the top of the order with 43 off 39 as his side stumbled to 127 from their 20 overs, a total that Delhi Capitals chased down with four balls remaining.

In their following fixture against MS Dhoni’s CSK, KKR were tasked with chasing 236 following half-centuries from Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube. This time KKR opened the batting with Sunil Narine and Narayan Jagadeesan who fell for nought and one respectively. Roy, who has opened the batting for almost the entirety of his T20 career, didn’t come to the crease until KKR lost their third wicket with the asking rate already more than 14 runs per over.

Roy made an instant impact, hitting his second, third and fourth deliveries at the crease all for six off the bowling of his England teammate Moeen Ali. Roy eventually brought up his fifty off 19 deliveries – the second-fastest of the 2023 tournament so far.

KKR have struggled so far this season, and are outsiders in the IPL betting for 2023.
