Rohit, who has captained the franchise to IPL trophies, has not had the same impact with the bat in recent years. He did not get off to the greatest start in 2023 either, making 184 runs in the first eight games of the season, with one fifty and three scores below five. To add to his batting woes, Mumbai Indians are also currently seventh on the table, with eight points.

Playing his 200th game for Mumbai on Wednesday, Rohit would have hoped for a turnaround, but he was in for disappointment as his team first conceded 214 runs in the first innings, including giving away 48 runs in the last three overs., 27 of which came in one Jofra Archer over.

Chasing a huge score, Mumbai would have hoped to get off to a flier, but they lost their captain with no runs on the board on just the third ball. The first over was bowled by Rishi Dhawan, who sent down a wider delivery to Rohit. The batter danced down and attempted a wild swing but only managed to sent it to Matthew Short at square third man. He departed for a three-ball duck, which also meant that his IPL average is now 29.86.

In 231 innings, Rohit has made 6,063 runs with a strike rate of 129.88. This year, he averages 20.44, and the last time his average was above 30 in any IPL season was in 2016. Rohit has also had a strike rate of more than 130 only once in his last five seasons.

Overall, since 2017, Rohit averages 24.87 with a strike rate of 126.75, making seven ducks in 93 innings. Mumbai Indians are currently fourth favourites in the IPL betting to win the 2023 event.
