The Gujarat Titans opener, who was stranded on 94* against Chennai Super Kings last week, ensured he carried on and got to three digits after a blazing start against SRH on Monday. The defending champions lost Wriddhiman Saha early without a run being scored, but Gill did not let that affect his intent, as he smashed 28 runs in the first nine balls that he faced, hitting five fours.

He needed 13 more balls to get to his fifth IPL fifty this season and helped take Gujarat to 103-1 from the first ten overs along with Sai Sudharsan. The duo put on 147 runs for the second wicket in 82 deliveries, with Gill scoring 89 in 48.

Following Sudarshan’s dismissal, GT managed only 32 runs in the next four overs for the loss of four wickets. Gill slowed down and played with caution, and eventually got to his first ever IPL ton from 56 balls as his splendid run this year continued.

Gill currently averages 78 in ODIs in 2023, with 624 runs in nine games, and could potentially break an all-time record held by Sachin Tendulkar. He also brought up his first T20I hundred this year against New Zealand. Gill also registered a fine hundred in the fourth Test against Australia, also at Ahmedabad. His T20I ton was also scored at the same venue.

Gill was eventually dismissed for 101 off 58 balls by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, with his innings containing 13 fours and a six. Gujarat ended on 188-9, scoring 85-8 in the last ten overs.
