Suryakumar has established himself as one of the best batters in T20 history with a stunning record over the last few years, and has overturned a rare poor patch in spectacular style in recent weeks.
After making three golden ducks in three ODIs in a series against New Zealand, he managed just 16 runs in his first three innings of IPL 2023, including another first-baller.
Since then, he has roared back to form, only falling for less than 20 once and adding four fifties. His last knock before today (May 12), a 35-ball 83, removed any doubt over his touch, and he went even bigger against Gujarat Titans, blasting 11 fours and six sixes, the last of which, off the final ball of the innings, brought up his first IPL hundred off 49 balls.
It was Suryakumar’s fourth six that stunned Tendulkar, playing a lofted drive off Mohammed Shami, but manipulating his wrists in order to send the ball behind square of the off-side. Tendulkar could be seen trying to work out just how the Mumbai Indians No.3 had done it on the TV coverage.
