IPL 2025 qualification scenarios

The four IPL 2025 playoffs spots have been decided, but the top two remain undecided.

On May 21, Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by 59 runs at the Wankhede Stadium to join Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2025 IPL playoffs. With the four spots sealed, the interest switched to who would make it to the top two and earn the temporary immunity of Qualifier 1.

GT and RCB had their chances to edge ahead in the race over the next two games, but they lost their matches to Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively. All four teams are still in the race.

What do GT, PBKS, RCB, MI need for a top-two finish?

As is evident, the KKR versus SRH game is inconsequential to the playoffs race. The following table does not include them.

The first four columns indicate the winner of that match (and assumes that there will be no “no result”). The next four columns indicate the final points if the four matches go as per the first four columns.

If two teams are tied on points, teams are ordered by number of wins, followed by net run rate. As it happens, in this case, any possible ties on points will be between teams with an equal number of wins – meaning net run rate will be the decider.
