Harsh Dubey had a record-breaking Ranji Trophy season

Harsh Dubey, the 22-year-old all-rounder from Vidarbha, has signed up as a replacement player in IPL 2025.

Dubey, who bowls left-arm spin, had a record-breaking season in the 2024/25 Ranji Trophy, finishing with the most wickets in a single edition of the tournament. He took 69 wickets at 16.98, with seven five-wicket hauls. He also has seven fifties in 32 first-class innings.

Who is Dubey replacing?

Interestingly, Dubey comes in for another replacement player for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team had initially replaced Adam Zampa with R Smaran, the 22-year-old batter from Karnataka. However, Smaran's own injury has now handed Dubey his maiden IPL contract.

In seven Ranji Trophy matches this season, Smaran averaged 64.50 with two centuries.

Sunrisers Hyderabad are all but out from the race to the playoffs: with six points in 10 matches, there's only a slim mathematical chance left.

What do Dubey's T20 records say?

The 22-year-old has limited T20 experience: in 16 matches, he has picked up nine wickets at an economy of 6.78, and scored 19 runs at a strike-rate of 90.7.

He made his T20 debut in the 2021/22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, also appearing in the next two editions of the tournament.

His last T20 game came in December 2024, where he batted at No.8 and dismissed Suryakumar Yadav during the Vidarbha v Mumbai match.
