Hardik Pandya is missing Mumbai Indians' IPL 2026 home clash against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday (May 4) - here's why.
Suryakumar Yadav leading MI against LSG
India T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav came out for the toss at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, raising questions on Hardik Pandya's availability.
SKY won the toss and elected to field for MI, before revealing that Pandya was "not well tonight", which is what forced him to take up captaincy duties for this all-important clash. Mumbai Indians later reported that Pandya is suffering from back spasms.
Earlier in the season, Pandya had missed the Mumbai Indians' match against the Delhi Capitals exactly one month back, on April 4. SKY had led MI on that occasion as well, making 51 off 36 balls. However, MI's total of 162-6 wasn't enough as Delhi overhauled it with six wickets and 11 balls to spare.
For tonight's game, MI have replaced Trent Boult with Corbin Bosch, while Rohit Sharma has also made a comeback (he's listed as an impact player) after sitting out of a few games due to injury.

Mumbai are currently ninth on the IPL 2026 points table, having won only two out of nine matches. They are in a do-or-die situation and cannot afford to lose any more games if they are to stay in contention for a spot in the playoffs.
LSG, on the other hand, are bottom of the table, with four points as well, like MI. However, they have played one fewer game than Mumbai.
