Sunrisers Hyderabad rode on captain Ishan Kishan’s 44-ball 91 and Heinrich Klaasen’s 26-ball 40 to amass 216-6. Nitish Kumar Reddy (28 in 13) and Salil Arora (24 not out in 13) chipped in as well.
Rajasthan Royals were then rocked by IPL debutant Praful Hinge, who became the first bowler in IPL history to take three wickets in the first over. Sakib Hussain, another debutant, struck at the other end. When Hinge took another wicket, RR were left reeling at 9-5. Ravindra Jadeja (45 in 32) and Donovan Ferreira (69 in 44) then pushed them to 159.
Despite losing their first match of the season, RR remained at the top of the table, while SRH jumped to fourth place.
