West Indies registered their second win in the ICC Women’s Championship 2025-29 cycle, beating Ireland in the first ODI of the three-match series. Here’s the updated points table after the game.
West Indies completed their highest successful run chase in ODI history, gunning down 270 in less than 39 overs in the first ODI. Their previous highest chase was when they razed down 234 against South Africa in Cuttack in 2013.
Captain Hayley Matthews led from the front, scoring an unbeaten 159 off 123 balls with 24 fours and two sixes. It is also her career-best score, surpassing the 140* she made against Pakistan in 2024.
Her opening partner Realeanna Grimmond played a supporting role to score 91 as the duo added 258 runs together - the highest-ever opening partnership in a run chase in women’s ODIs.
Earlier in the game, Ireland put up a brilliant effort after West Indies opted to field. They scored 269 runs, their highest-ever total against the Caribbean outfit in ODIs. Amy Hunter was their top-scorer, falling just four runs short of a second ODI ton. Afy Fletcher was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies with a four-wicket haul, while Matthews accounted for three wickets.

This was West Indies’ second win in seven matches of the 2025-29 ICC Women’s Championship. With this victory, they jumped to sixth place in the points table while Ireland took the ninth spot, with this being their first match in the cycle.
World champions India are the only team yet to play an ODI in the 2025-29 cycle.
