There four are franchise T20 leagues currently underway around the world – the SA20, the ILT20, the Big Bash League and the Bangladesh Premier League – and they feature a total of 60 English players in action, while the Lanka Premier League and the Abu Dhabi T10 have already finished up – here’s a round up of how all of them are faring this winter.


Reece Topley

After injury ruled him out of England’s victorious T20 World Cup campaign days before the start of the tournament, Reece Topley has enjoyed a wicket taking start to the SA20 with five scalps in the two matches he’s played so far including the wicket of Jos Buttler.

George Garton

A thankless winter for George Garton, he went wicketless in five consecutive matches across the Abu Dhabi T10 and SA20 before finally dismissing Jason Roy in his second match for the Joburg Super Kings.

Lewis Gregory

No wickets and a top score of 13 for the Somerset all-rounder in the three franchise matches he has played this winter.

Eoin Morgan

Despite international retirement, Eoin Morgan has still been involved in plenty of cricket this winter. He scored an unbeaten 87 off 35 in the Abu Dhabi T10 before hitting 64 off 37 for Paarl Royals.

Jofra Archer

A scintillating return to professional cricket’s spotlight for England’s long injured quick bowler, he took 3-27 against MI Cape Town and bowled with searing pace.

Sam Curran

The T20 World Cup player of the tournament has yet to take a wicket in the SA20 after playing three matches.

Liam Livingstone

After picking up an injury during England’s first Test match in Pakistan, Livingstone has yet to play a match in franchise cricket this winter.

Olly Stone

A fantastic spell of 4-28 in the SA20 will give England fans hope that another one of their injured pace options will be available for international selection in the summer.

Jos Buttler

After leading England to T20 World Cup glory Jos Buttler got off to a flying start in the SA20, scoring a half-century in his first innings for Paarl Royals.

Jason Roy

Jason Roy’s tricky patch of form continues, in the seven franchise matches he has played since the end of England’s ODI tour of Australia he has registered just one score above fifty.

Will Jacks

A sensational 92 off 46 in the SA20 for Pretoria Capitals continued a brilliant winter for Will Jacks.

Adil Rashid

After playing for Team Abu Dhabi in the T10 league, Adil Rashid has had a mixed start in the SA20 for Pretoria Capitals. He’s taken three wickets from his first two games but conceded more than 4o runs in both.

Phil Salt

The opener kicked off his campaign in the SA20 with 77* from 47.

Tom Abell

Somerset’s captain played in the Lanka Premier League before travelling to South Africa, kicking off his SA20 with an unbeaten 40 off 24.

Brydon Carse

Just the one franchise appearance so far this winter for Brydon Carse, he took 1-43 with the ball and scored 26* with the bat for Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Jordan Cox

A busy winter for Jordan Cox, he featured for Dambulla Aura in the Lanka Premier League before starting his SA20 with scores of five and nought.

Mason Crane

Mason Crane went wicketless in his only match of the winter so far for Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

James Fuller

Hampshire’s all-rounder has participated in the Abu Dhabi T10, Lanka Premier League and SA20 this winter, with a high score of 27* with the bat and best figures of 2-16 with the ball.

Adam Rossington

Adam Rossington played four matches in the Abu Dhabi T10 and was picked up by Sunrisers Eastern Cape for the SA20, but has yet to play a match in the competition.


Benny Howell

Part of the Lanka Premier League earlier in the winter where he returned best figures of 3-17, Benny Howell is now also playing for Desert Vipers in the ILT20.

Jake Lintott

Just the one franchise match so far this winter for Jake Lintott, he took 1-27 for the Bangla Tigers in the BPL before joining up with the Desert Vipers for whom he has yet to play a game.

Adam Lyth

Yorkshire’s opener also has yet to play a match for Desert Vipers but has featured heavily in the BBL for the Perth Scorchers with a top score of 35. He also played in the Abu Dhabi T10 for the Northern Warriors.

Gus Atkinson

Currently playing for Desert Vipers in the ILT20 along with compatriots Alex Hales and Sam Billings, Gus Atkinson also played in the Abu Dhabi T10 and has picked up two wickets from four matches across the winter.

Sam Billings

Back at the Brisbane Heat again this winter, Sam Billings fired 79 off 48 against Adelaide Strikers before joining up with Desert Vipers.

Tom Curran

Tom Curran returned figures of 1-36 in the ILT20, in the only franchise match he has played this winter.

Alex Hales

After a successful return to England colours, Alex Hales scored three fifties for Sydney Thunder before kicking off his ILT20 with an unbeaten 83 off 52.

Tymal Mills

Just the one match in the ILT20 so far for Tymal Mills, he took 1-11 for Desert Vipers.

Ravi Bopara

Ravi Bopara enjoyed a personally successful run in the Lanka Premier League, scoring 47* in the final for Colombo Stars albeit in a losing cause. He’s now featuring for the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20.

Dan Lawrence

Ahead of his return to the England Test squad in New Zealand, Dan Lawrence played the Abu Dhabi T10 and is now with Dubai Capitals, although he has yet to play a game in the ILT20.

Joe Root

Playing in his first overseas franchise tournament since the 2018/19 BBL season, Joe Root has played two matches for Dubai Capitals. He scored 26 off 21 in the first, and was run out by James Vince for 6 off 11 in the second.

James Vince

91* off 59 balls in the BBL is James Vince’s best return of the winter so far, he also scored 65 from 44 in his first game in the ILT20.

Tom Banton

Tom Banton enjoyed a solid campaign in the Abu Dhabi T10, passing 30 four times in seven innings, but is yet to get a game in the ILT20.

Liam Dawson

Hampshire’s left-arm-spinning all-rounder played two matches in the Abu Dhabi T10 League before picking up his first franchise wicket of the winter in the ILT20 for the Gulf Giants.

Richard Gleeson

After making his T20I debut against Pakistan in November, Richard Gleeson is currently playing for the Gulf Giants in the ILT20 after playing for Delhi Bulls in the Abu Dhabi T10.

Tom Helm

Tom Helm has yet to play a match in the ILT20 after featuring heavily for Deccan Gladiators in the Abu Dhabi T10.

Chris Jordan

England’s short-format specialist pace bowler took four wickets for Sydney Sixers in the BBL before taking 3-28 in his first match of the ILT20.

Ollie Pope

One franchise game for Ollie Pope so far after England’s Test series in Pakistan, he scored 18 for Gulf Giants.

Rehan Ahmed

After becoming the youngest Test player ever to represent England in December, Rehan Ahmed took 1-27 in his first franchise match of the winter in the ILT20.

Jamie Overton

1-46 were Jamie Overton’s figures in the only match he has played so far in the ILT20.

Tom Lammonby

Despite signing for MI Emirates in the ILT20, Tom Lammonby has yet to play a match for the side.

Dan Mousley

The 21-year-old Warwickshire batter also has yet to play a match for MI Emirates.

Craig Overton

Craig Overton makes it a trio of unused English players so far for MI Emirates.

Will Smeed

Will Smeed is the one English player who has been used for MI Emirates, he scored two off seven in his first match for the side.

Jordan Thompson

Yorkshire’s Jordan Thompson was part of the New York Strikers side which made the final of the Abu Dhabi T10 league. He joined up with MI Emirates afterwards but has also yet to play a match.

Samit Patel

Another English player yet to play for MI Emirates.

Moeen Ali

Another busy franchise winter for Moeen Ali, he’s currently playing for the Sharjah Warriors in the ILT20 with best figures of 1-8.

Joe Denly

Joe Denly scored 36* 33 down the order for Sharjah Warriors in his second franchise game of the winter.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore

Yorkshire’s Tom Kohler-Cadmore played one match in the Abu Dhabi T10 before featuring in two so far in the ILT20, a top score of ten in those three games.

Dawid Malan

Dawid Malan has had stints in the Abu Dhabi T10, Lanka Premier League and now the ILT20 this winter, a top score of 37 for the Comilla Victorians his best return.

Paul Walter

The Sharjah Warriors picked up Paul Walter this winter but he has yet to play a game for them.

Chris Woakes

After a long international lay-off with injury, Chris Woakes returned to action for Sharjah Warriors and picked up three wickets from his first two games.


Sam Hain

Scores of six and five from Sam Hain’s first two innings for the Brisbane Heat.

Ross Whiteley

Ross Whiteley has played nine innings for the Brisbane Heat so far but has only got out of singles figures twice with the bat, and picked up three wickets with the ball.

Zak Crawley

England’s Test opener scored an unbeaten 54 in his first BBL match. Thirty is his top score in the three innings since then.

Joe Clarke

Joe Clarke has been a constant presence for the Melbourne Stars this winter, scoring one fifty in the Melbourne derby against the Renegades.

Luke Wood

Another English Melbourne Stars player, Luke Wood picked up a five-for in the BBL in December and has taken nine more wickets in as many games since then.

Stephen Eskinazi

The Middlesex batter has played four matches so far for Perth Scorchers, his latest innings an unbeaten 66 off 54.

David Payne

After a stint in the Abu Dhabi T10, David Payne has joined up with the Perth Scorchers, taking two wickets in his two matches so far.


Josh Cobb

Josh Cobb has yet to play a match in the BPL after signing for Comilla Victorians.

Robin Das

Robin Das has played just three T20 games for Essex, but is now playing for Dhaka Dominators in the BPL. He made a golden duck on debut.
