Michael Bracwell reviews after being bowled in MLC

Watch: New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell tried to take a review after being bowled in an MLC 2025 match between MI New York and San Francisco Unicorns on Monday (June 23).

The incident occurred in the 17th over of MINY’s chase of a 247-run target. They suffered an early setback when Quinton de Kock was dismissed for a 46-ball 70 on the first ball of the over bowled by Romario Shepherd. This brought Michael Bracewell to the crease at No.5. The New Zealand all-rounder attempted an ambitious pull shot off his first ball, against a delivery that wasn’t sufficiently short, missed completely, and had his stumps shattered. The umpire promptly raised his finger as the Unicorns began celebrating.

Bracewell, seemingly unaware of what had transpired, immediately signalled for a review by forming the 'T' with his hands. A split second later, he glanced back at his shattered stumps, realised his mistake, and trudged off the field. As he walked off, Bracewell pointed to his pads – apparently suggesting he thought he was dismissed lbw – while sharing a sheepish smile with Unicorns captain Matt Short.

MINY fell 47 runs short of their target. The inaugural champions have now lost four of their five matches, leaving them fourth on the table, just above Los Angeles Knight Riders and Seattle Orcas. Meanwhile, the defending runners-up Unicorns are at the top of the standings with their fifth consecutive win, powered by captain Short’s blistering 91 off 43 balls.

Something similar happened during the Dharamshala Test between India and England in early 2024 when Shoaib Bashir tried to review despite being castled by Ravindra Jadeja. That left non-striker Joe Root in splits.
