Watch: Pakistan vice-captain Shan Masood was dismissed for a second ball duck by a rapid 90mph ball from Lockie Ferguson, in his first ODI match for nearly four years.
Masood replaced Imam-ul-Haq in the starting XI for today’s series decider against New Zealand but was dismissed in the second over of the match leaving Pakistan 2-1.
Facing up to his first delivery the ball before his dismissal, he prodded a full ball from Ferguson into the off-side for Pakistan’s ninth dot ball in the first two overs of the innings. The next ball to Masood pitched on leg stump, angling across the left-hander and flying past his outside edge at 90mph through to the keeper, Tom Latham gathering the ball low to the ground. The appeal was fairly muted from the New Zealand fielders, with Ferguson seemingly unsure whether the ball had taken the edge or not, and half shouts from behind the wicket. Bowler’s end umpire Aleem Dar gave his decision of not out with a shake of his head.
In an excellent gut-feel review, Kane Williamson sent the decision upstairs and Ultra-edge showed a small scratch as the ball passed Masood’s bat. It was a disappointing return to ODI cricket for Pakistan’s newly appointed vice-captain, his second duck in the six matches he has played in the format. He previously played a five-match bilateral series against Australia in March 2019 before being selected in the current squad against New Zealand.
