Watch: Glenn Phillips took a one-handed screamer at gully to dismiss Ollie Pope on the second day (November 29) of the first New Zealand-England Test at Christchurch.
Phllips’ spectacular catch helped New Zealand end a 151-run stand between Ollie Pope (77) and Harry Brook.
Off the second ball of the 53rd over during England's innings, Pope played an uppish cut shot off Tim Southee. Phillips stationed at gully, dived full length to his right, throwing himself horizontally in the air and plucked the ball out of thin air. The crowd erupted in joy as Phillips, who is no alien to these sort of blinders, embraced the cheers.
Barring him, New Zealand were ordinary in the field, dropping as many as six catches. England went to stumps at 319-5 in response to the hosts’ 348. Brook, continued his run of form from the last tour with an unbeaten 163-ball 132, while Ben Stokes was on 37 not out off 76.
