The three-match T20I series between the sides came to an end on October 23. Rain played spoilsport throughout the series, resulting in two washouts. In the second T20I, England put up a massive 236-4, emerging victorious by 65 runs to seal the series. The ODI series begins on Sunday at the Bay Oval.

The most significant news from New Zealand's point of view is that pacer Kyle Jamieson has been ruled out of the series entirely, after experiencing stiffness in his left side during training on Saturday. He will return to Christchurch for medical scans, and the Black Caps are set to announce a replacement before the first match begins.
Kane Williamson will be back in national team colours, after he was not part of the T20I squad.
