Nineteen-year-old Tazeem Ali shone with 5-43 in Warwickshire’s clash with Northamptonshire on Sunday (August 10) at the 2025 One-Day Cup.

Batting first, Warwickshire recovered from 32-4 to score 291-8. They were led by Alex Davies, who scored a run-a-ball 123, alongside Kai Smith’s fifty. Batting at No.9, Michael Booth smashed 45 in 25 balls, as Warwickshire neared the 300-run mark. For Northamptonshire, three bowlers picked up two wickets apiece, including Liam Guthrie, Luke Procter and Yuzvendra Chahal, who conceded 54 runs in his 10 overs.

In reply, Northamptonshire were unable to get going as well, and were struggling at 73-4 in 17.3 overs, before George Bartlett (47) and Justin Broad (43) got together for 86 runs. Tazeem dismissed the duo in the space of eight deliveries, as the match tilted towards Warwickshire, who eventually completed a 62-run win.

Tazeem ended up with figures of 5-43 from 10 overs, also taking the wickets of opposition captain Lewis McManus, Rob Keogh, and Dominic Leech. This was his first five-wicket haul in senior professional cricket.

      Who is Tazeem Chaudry Ali?

      Tazeem, who represented England Under-19 against India recently, made his first-class debut earlier this season for Warwickshire. In four games, he has picked up 11 wickets at 36.81 thus far.

      The youngster made his List A debut in 2023, but had picked up only eight wickets in as many games before his outing against Northamptonshire on Sunday.

      Tazeem played in the Under-19 World Cup in 2024, where he ended as his team’s highest wicket-taker, with 14 scalps at 9.64 apiece. Only two other spinners have taken more wickets at a better average than Tazeem in a single edition.

      He went wicketless in the two Youth ODIs against India, played last month.

      Tazeem has also played two Youth Tests, both against South Africa, grabbing eight wickets, including a match-haul of 6-129.
