Pakistan opener scores match-winning fifty on One-Day Cup debut in low-scoring clash

Imam Ul Haq in County Cricket

Pakistan batter Imam-ul-Haq scored a fighting half-century in the 2025 One-Day Cup game between Yorkshire and Warwickshire on August 5, taking his team to victory.

Imam-ul-Haq leads Yorkshire's run-chase with crucial fifty

Imam, making his debut at the One-Day Cup, was instrumental in Yorkshire's successful run-chase of 138 against Warwickshire at the North Marine Road Ground in Scarborough.

Fielding first, Yorkshire reduced the Warwickshire to 12-4 and then 38-7, threatening to bowl them out for the lowest total in One-Day Cup history. But 20-year-old Vaansh Jani, on List A debut, dug them out of the hole, scoring a defiant 82 off 92 balls from No.7. He added 64 runs with Oliver Hannon-Dalby for the last wicket, with the No.11 contributing only one off 26 balls to the partnership.

For Yorkshire, Benjamin Cliff was the destroyer-in-chief, taking 5-46 from 8.3 overs. Yorkshire didn't find it easy going in the chase, though. They lost Adam Lyth in the seventh over with only 10 runs on the board and were reduced to 72-4 at one point after Matthew Revis was out for a golden duck in the 21st over.

Imam was signed by Yorkshire as a replacement for India batter Ruturaj Gaikwad, who pulled out of the deal due to personal reasons. The Pakistani left-hander played Yorkshire's County Championship match against Sussex, where he made 19 from No.3 in the only innings he batted.

Imam's fifty in Yorkshire's opening game at the One-Day Cup was his 44th score of 50-plus in List A cricket. From 116 matches in the format, he has scored 4,698 runs at an average of 44.32 and a strike rate of 80.56. He also has 10 hundreds to go with it. 75 of those 116 games have come in ODIs for Pakistan, where his average and strike rate improve to 47.04 and 81.95 respectively.

He has also played 24 Tests (averaging 37.33) and two T20Is (striking at 84).
