Harry Singh of England in action during a England U19 Nets Session at The Incora County Ground on August 27, 2022 in Derby, England

Harry Singh, son of former India cricketer Rudra Pratap Singh, hit his maiden List A fifty in a One-Day Cup match against Sussex at Hove on Friday (August 15).

Batting first, Lancashire laid a solid platform thanks to openers Michael Jones (82 off 77 balls) and George Bell (66 off 74). However, the tourists lost wickets in clusters, slipping from 157-0 to 186-3 in 29.1 overs.

Harry Singh scores maiden professional half-century

That brought 21-year-old Harry Singh to the crease. The right-handed batter ensured the top order’s strong start wasn’t wasted, steadying the innings with his maiden List A half-century. Singh reached the milestone off 44 balls, clipping Danny Lamb for a single. He struck three fours and three sixes en route to the landmark, then accelerated further, scoring 24 off his next 17 balls (including two more fours and a six). Lancashire finished on a competitive 338-7.

Having made his One-Day Cup debut last year, Singh’s previous best in nine innings was just 33 (against Yorkshire three days earlier). His 61-ball 74 now stands as his highest List A score. He also represented Lancashire in two first-class matches last year, with a high score of 31 so far.

Singh is the son of former India pacer Rudra Pratap Singh, who opened the bowling alongside Kapil Dev in two ODIs against Australia in 1986. Notably, there is another Rudra Pratap Singh – also famously known by his initials RP – who opened the bowling for India in the 2000s and was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning squad.

Harry's sister, Anjalie, has also represented Lancashire in T20s and played List A cricket for Cumbria. Singh was one of the non-squad members fielding substitutes for England during their home Tests against Sri Lanka last year.

Singh also rolled his arm over, sending down six overs of off-breaks for just 18 runs. Though he didn’t take a wicket, his economy rate of 3.0 was the best among his teammates on a day when Sussex completed their highest successful List A chase in 49.3 overs with just one wicket left.

Sussex surpassed their previous record against Kent in 2017, when they chased down 332 in 47.5 overs. Their latest effort was spearheaded by the two Toms – Clark (139 off 109) and Haines (90 off 101).
