Alex Green takes maiden list a five-for

Teenage Leicestershire pacer Alex Green took his maiden List A five-for playing against Surrey in the One Day Cup today (August 6), with his victims including England Test capped keeper, Ben Foakes.

The 6ft 6in, 18-year-old pacer had played just four List A games before today, having played for England U19s in their ODI series against India last month, and played three games in last year's competition. He took four wickets at 30.75 in the 2024 One Day Cup, and returned figures of 3-50 in the first ENG v IND youth ODI in June.

In his first outing of the One Day Cup this year, against Surrey in Guildford, he took his career-best figures in the format as Leicestershire bowled the home side out for 174. After Surrey were reduced to 32-2, Green removed former England Test keeper Ben Foakes with a beauty, drawing Foakes into a drive which took his outside edge and went through to the keeper. That wicket came off Green's second ball into the attack, and left Surrey 43-3 in the 12th over.

He went on to dismiss Ollie Sykes and Cameron Steel in consecutive deliveries, before getting James Taylor two overs later. With Surrey nine wickets down and Green chasing his five-for, Nathan Blake became his final victim, completing his maiden List A five-wicket-haul.

That wicket meant Surrey were bowled out for 174, with seven of their side out before reaching double figures. In response, Leicestershire openers Sol Budinger and Rishi Patel put on 69 before Budinger was dismissed by Alex French. Patel was trapped by Yousef Majid in the following over to leave the Foxes 77-2, but they won by six wickets with more than 20 overs to spare.
