Nottinghamshire recovered from 1-3 to chase down 274 in their One-Day Cup quarterfinal against Yorkshire, thanks to centuries from Kyle Verreynne and Jack Haynes.

Nottinghamshire were in tatters early in the run chase, with Ben Coad and George Hill running through their top order. George Munsey tried to arrest the slide, adding 54 runs with Verreynne, but his dismissal reduced the side to 55-4 in the 13th over. The writing seemed to be on the wall for Nottinghamshire at this stage.

But Verreynne and Haynes together turned the game on its head. They launched a counterattack to add 154 runs for the fifth wicket, with both the batters going on to complete their respective hundreds. But Coad brought Yorkshire back into the game to pick up three wickets in six deliveries to reduce Notts from 209-4 to 213-7, including the wicket of the South Africa wicketkeeper-batter.

With the pressure building up, it seemed like Nottinghamshire weren’t coming back into the game again. But Haynes stood tall, continuing to take the attack to the bowlers and found an able ally in Dillon Penington to stitch an unbeaten 64-run stand for the eighth wicket.

Haynes remained unbeaten on 116 off 99, with 12 fours and two sixes, while Penington also played his part in the chase with 22* runs in 18 deliveries to take the team through in the 49th over. Nottinghamshire, despite collapsing twice in the innings, and with only two batters crossing the 25-run mark, sealed their place in the semifinal with stunning knocks from Verreynne and Haynes.

Meanwhile, Coad finished with a five-wicket haul, but his brilliant effort went in vain.

Dillon Pennington’s four-wicket haul restricts Yorkshire

Earlier, Pennington was also at his best with the ball, picking up four wickets for just 49 runs. His spell helped Notts restrict Yorkshire to 273.

Will Bennison was the top scorer with 91 runs, while James Wharton (44) and Sam Whiteman (39) also contributed to the score. Notably, Yorkshire couldn’t up the ante in the death overs as they collapsed from 234-5 to 273-9, mustering only 39 runs off the last 35 balls.
