Quinton de Kock became the second-fastest batter to reach 7,000 runs in men's ODIs during his half-century in the third match of the series against Pakistan on Saturday (November 8).
Quinton de Kock goes past Kohli, Williamson
De Kock recently took back his international retirement and returned to the South Africa white-ball setup. Following four unproductive T20Is - one against Namibia and three against Pakistan - he turned out in his first ODI since the 2023 World Cup during the first match of the series against Pakistan and immediately struck gold.
A knock of 63 off 71 balls in the first match was followed by an unbeaten 123 in the second to ace a successful run-chase. In the third, de Kock went past his third consecutive 50-plus scored before Mohammad Nawaz trapped him lbw for 53 off 70.
De Kock had entered the series with 6,770 runs to his name from 155 innings. His aggregate of 239 has taken him past 7,000 runs in the format, reaching the landmark in just 158 innings.
In the process, de Kock has overtaken Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson, who took 161 and 159 innings and were third and second on the list, respectively, before today.
The record for being the fastest to 7,000 men's ODI runs belongs to another South African - Hashim Amla - who took only 150 innings to reach there.
As far as the earlier landmarks are concerned, de Kock was the ninth-fastest to get to 6,000 runs (142 innings), joint seventh-fastest to 5,000 (116), and eighth-fastest to 4,000 (94).
In women's ODIs, Mithali Raj is the only batter to have scored more than 7,000 runs. She took 192 innings to reach the mark.
