Noman Ali overtakes Wasim Akram, Shaheen Shah Afridi

Noman is currently in action in the second Test between Pakistan and South Africa in Rawalpindi, but has risen in the rankings for his performance in the series opener in Lahore last week.

      The left-arm spinner took 10-193 in the match, bowling Pakistan to a 93-run win. It continued a stellar run of form for Noman, whose record between the start of 2024 and the end of the Lahore Test read 46 wickets in five matches, at an average of 14.56.

      That performance has given him a boost of 47 points in the ICC Test bowling rankings, from 806 to 853 rating points. That has pushed him from No.6 to No.2 in the rankings, with India's Jasprit Bumrah now the only bowler rated higher, at 882.

      Noman now joins an exclusive club of Pakistani bowlers to cross an ICC rating of 850 points – Imran Khan, Waqar Younis, Fazal Mahmood, Yasir Shah, Shoaib Akhtar and Saeed Ajmal are the others to do so. Noman has now overtaken the peak ratings of Mohammad Abbas (838), Shaheen Shah Afridi (836), Wasim Akram (830) and Mushtaq Ahmed (827).

      Other changes in the rankings saw Sajid Khan and Kagiso Rabada fall by nine and five places respectively. Senuran Muthusamy rose by 17, from 67th to joint-50th. Among batters, Mohammad Rizwan went up four spots to 16th, and Ryan Rickelton up 13 spots to 46th.
