After the Test series was drawn 1-1, Pakistan clinched the three-match T20I series 2-1, with Babar Azam scoring a half-century in the decider. The two teams will now meet in a three-match ODI series. The last time Pakistan faced South Africa in a bilateral series was in December last year, when they achieved a historic 3-0 clean sweep.
Overall, in head-to-head ODI clashes, South Africa hold the edge with 53 wins, while Pakistan have won 35, with one match ending in a no result.
Pakistan won a thriller in the series opener, as Salman Ali Agha's 62 helped them chase 264 with two balls to spare. The Proteas hit back with a comprehensive eight-wicket win in Faisalabad as Quinton de Kock struck a superb 123 not out to chase 270 with almost 10 overs in hand.
It is winner-take-all in the third ODI on Saturday.
