The home side recalled opener Imam-ul-Haq to their Test squad, after he impressed in England's One-Day Cup and hit a triple century in the Hanif Mohammad Trophy. Notably, they also called up 38-year-old uncapped spinner Asif Afridi, as well as young wicketkeeper Rohail Nazir.

The visitors are without their regular captain, Temba Bavuma, due to injury. Aiden Markram will lead the side instead, with recalls for off-spinner Simon Harmer and batter Zubayr Hamza.
