The first round of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy came to an end on Saturday (October 18). Here's what the standings look like.
How does the Ranji Trophy points system work?
Generally, a team is awarded six points for a win. If the victory is achieved by an innings or by 10 wickets, a bonus point is added, bringing their total to seven.
In the case of a draw, the team that takes the first-innings lead gets three points, while the team that concedes the lead gets one point.

For a no-result, or if the first innings is tied, each team is awarded one point. If the entire match is tied after both innings are completed, each team receives three points.
For a tie-breaker in the points table, a metric called "Quotient" is used, like the Net Run Rate in limited-overs cricket – calculated as a team's runs per wicket scored, divided by runs per wicket conceded. Unlike net run rate, it cannot be negative.
Therefore, it rewards teams that build high totals while losing fewer wickets and penalises those that concede too many runs and struggle to take wickets regularly.
How the teams have fared after Ranji Trophy 2025-26 round one
A total of 19 matches were scheduled in the first round. The Meghalaya-Mizoram Plate League match was abandoned without a ball being bowled, and both teams were awarded one point each.
In Group A, Vidarbha, Jharkhand, and Baroda won their respective opening fixtures. While Baroda got six points, Jharkhand and Vidarbha earned a bonus point, finishing with seven each for their innings victories.
Goa took full points in Group B, with an innings win over Chandigarh. The other three matches ended in draws, with Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Saurashtra earning three points for the first-innings leads.
