In a SA20 match at Newlands, Sherfane Rutherford biffed a 15-ball 47 not out before going on to take four wickets.

Pretoria Capitals posted 220-5 against an extremely strong MI Cape Town bowling line-up after Keshav Maharaj won the toss and opted to bat at Cape Town. PC became 38-3 in the sixth over before Shai Hope (45 in 30 balls) and Wihan Lubbe (60 in 36) launched a counterattack. They were 134-5 when both fell in quick succession.
Rutherford joined Dewald Brevis at this point. With only four overs remaining, PC were 137-5. Brevis hit a six in the next over, but Trent Boult kept it to only 11. In the 18th over, the batters hit three sixes off Bosch – Rutherford one, Brevis two.
For some reason, Rashid Khan opted to use Dwaine Pretorius ahead of George Linde or even Kagiso Rabada (Rashid had himself bowled out, as had Boult). Rutherford hit a six off each of the first four balls of the over – over long-on, square-leg, extra-cover, and long-off. This stretched PC’s run to six consecutive sixes, albeit across two overs.
PC were 195-5 when Rabada began the last over. Both batters hit a six apiece to extend their stand to an astonishing unbroken 86 off only 27 balls. Ten of their 15 sixes came in this phase.
Brevis finished with 36 not out in 13 balls (one four, four sixes) and Rutherford with 47 not out in 15 (six sixes). He became the first cricketer in SA20 history to hit five sixes in an innings without a single four.
But Rutherford was not done. Despite losing wickets, MICT raced to 112 in the 10th over when he had Reeza Hendricks caught at deep cover, and followed with the wicket of Linde, caught at deep third. With Maharaj (3-28) striking at the other end, the MICT chase ran out of steam: Rutherford got two more wickets to finish with 4-24 from three overs.
Rutherford thus became the first cricketer to score at least 45 at a strike rate of 300 and take four wickets in any T20 match.
