Updated WTC points table

Australia secured a huge innings victory in the first of the two-Test series against Sri Lanka at Galle today - here's what the updated World Test Championship (WTC) points table looks like after the penultimate match of the 2023-25 cycle.

Batting first after winning the toss, the Australia top and middle order made merry on a helpful batting wicket. Usman Khawaja scored his first Test double hundred, was involved in a mammoth third-wicket partnership with Steve Smith, who himself scored his third hundred in four matches, before Josh Inglis slammed the second-fastest Test ton on debut.

Australia declared on 654-6. Sri Lanka spinner Nishan Peiris recorded the worst Test innings figures by a Sri Lankan in the process. In response, the hosts weren't able to put up a strong enough fight with the bat. Dinesh Chandimal scored 72 from No.3, but no one else went past 22 as Sri Lanka folded for 165. Matt Kuhnemann took 5-63 while Mitchell Starc reached 700 international wickets.

Following on, Sri Lanka were bowled out again for 230. Six batters went past 30 this time, but none went past 50 as they lost the match by an innings and 242 runs.
